This taco dip with ground beef is the ultimate party dish, combining layers of seasoned beef, creamy cheese, and fresh vegetables. Easy to prepare and packed with flavor, it’s a crowd-pleaser perfect for game days, family dinners, or any gathering. Each bite offers a delicious mix of rich, savory beef with refreshing and crunchy toppings, making it an irresistible appetizer.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 8-10 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef (90% lean)
  • 2 packets taco seasoning (1.25 oz each)
  • ¾ cup water
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or pepper jack for added spice)
  • 2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 3 medium tomatoes, diced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 can sliced black olives (2.25 oz, drained)

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Ground Beef

– In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it into small crumbles (4-6 minutes).

– Drain the excess grease.

Step 2: Add Taco Seasoning

– Add ¾ cup water and 1 packet of taco seasoning to the drained beef. Simmer for a few minutes until thickened, then set aside to cool slightly.

Step 3: Make the Creamy Base

– In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and sour cream until smooth.

– Stir in the second packet of taco seasoning for extra flavor.

Step 4: Layer the Dip

– Spread the cream cheese and sour cream mixture evenly across the bottom of a 9×13-inch dish.

– Add the cooked ground beef on top of the creamy layer.

– Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the beef.

– Layer shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, chopped bell peppers, and sliced black olives on top for a fresh finish.

Notes

  • For a spicier dip, swap cheddar cheese for pepper jack or add jalapeños as a topping.
  • Pat tomatoes and lettuce dry before adding them to avoid watery dip.
  • Add a layer of refried beans or guacamole between the beef and cheese for a heartier version.
  • Serve warm by preheating the oven to 350°F and baking for 10 minutes, or until the cheese melts.
